Senior executives of the nation’s biggest airlines asked President Biden on Wednesday to allow the federal mask requirement at airports and on planes to expire next month.
The group has also asked the government to remove the requirement that visitors from abroad take a negative coronavirus test before traveling to the United States.
Senior executives of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and some other passenger and cargo companies said, “The persistent and steady decline in hospitalizations and mortality rates are the most convincing indicators that our country is well protected against serious diseases from Covid-19.” The carriers wrote a letter to Mr. Biden.
Referring to a phrase used by the president in his speech, “Given that we have entered a different phase in the fight against this virus, we strongly support your view that ‘Covid-19 no longer needs to control our lives’.” Union address earlier this month.
