Alyson Shontell to Be Fortune’s First Female Editor-in-Chief


luck on tuesday named Alyson Shontell as the new editor-in-chief, the first woman to hold the role in its 92-year history.

Ms Shontell, 35, joins from the digital media company Insider, where she is editor-in-chief of the business division. It will begin on October 6th.

Fortune CEO Alan Murray said: an email newsletter Ms. Shontell would be responsible for Fortune magazine and its website, as well as content on its conferences, newsletters, videos, podcasts, and Fortune Connect platform, an online community for executives.

Talking about Ms. Shontell’s love of journalism and her digital skills, she wrote, “Alyson is the perfect person to place Fortune in her second century.” “As employee number six at Business Insider, she helped shape and build the most successful game-only digital business journalism franchise of our time.”

He replaces Clifton Leaf, who left his post as editor-in-chief in June. Brian O’Keefe has been the acting editor.

Fortune joins a number of media outlets that now have women as their top editors, a historically male-dominated lineup. The Washington Post named it Sally Buzbee as executive editor in May. His previous role as executive editor of The Associated Press has been replaced by: Julie Speed. Last week, Axios named Sara Kehaulani Goo as editor-in-chief and Aja Whitaker-Moore as editor-in-chief.
