AP Appoints Daisy Veerasingham as New Chief


Daisy Veerasingham’s new president and CEO will be the first woman and first non-white person to lead the 175-year-old news agency, the Associated Press said on Tuesday.

He will replace Gary Pruitt, who retired at the end of the year after nearly 10 years in the role. The start date is January 1st.

“There is no doubt that this is a challenging media environment and like many other media outlets we have come under revenue pressure from time to time,” Ms Veerasingham said in an interview. “So we really need to support our core business in media, but we also need to work really hard to expand.”

Ms. Veerasingham, 51, joined the AP in 2004 as the sales director for the television news division in London. He was promoted to general manager of revenues in 2019 and became chief operating officer and vice president of the company in February.
