American beach volleyball duo April Ross and Alix Klineman reach the semi-finals.
Ross and Klineman defeated Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Margareta Kozuch in two close sets, 21-19, 21-19 and 44 minutes, on Tuesday morning. In the semi-finals, they will face Swiss Anouk Verge-Depre and Joana Heidrich, who won Brazil in sets 21-19, 18-21, 15-12.
Ross has won a medal in the last two Olympics and, along with Klineman, is in a good position to do it again if they win at least one of their next two games. The semi-finals will be held on Thursday. Of course, winning the semi-final will lead to an appearance in the gold medal match – a highly preferable option to chase the bronze as one of the semifinal losers.
After playing mostly indoor volleyball, 31-year-old Klineman switched to beach volleyball in 2017 and teamed up with 39-year-old Ross. Ross won silver with Jennifer Kessy in 2012 and bronze with Kerri Walsh Jennings in 2016.
