At the Games Today: USA vs Canada in softball and men’s soccer

Thursday at the Olympic Games, or as it is officially known, “Day Negative 1.”. (The opening ceremony is on Friday.)

The fire hose of the sport, which will begin to vomit on Saturday, is still a trickle, but there are a few events to watch out for.

Tokyo morning includes three more softball games. The USA won by 2-0 in their first game against Italy on Wednesday, so a stronger offensive performance will be sought against Canada (1-0) at 9pm on Thursday. Mexico-Japan and Australia-Italy follow.

Then Tokyo afternoon and evening football starts again, this time men instead of women. The United States did not qualify for the men’s tournament, which was mostly made up of young professionals.

Highlights of the eight matches are Mexico-France in Yokohama at 17:00 (East Thursday at 4:00) and Brazil-Germany at 20:30 (Thursday 07:30 East). At the 2016 Games in Rio, Brazil beat Germany in the penalty shootout gold medal game.
