Cannes Film Festival Awards Lifetime Achievement Award to Forest Whitaker

American actor Forest Whitaker received the honorary Palme d’Or lifetime achievement award at the opening ceremony of the 75th festival on Tuesday.

Clips from some of the director’s films such as “Bird”, “Ghost Dog”, “The Color of Money” and “Panic Room” were screened at the ceremony. And in the theater the actor received a standing ovation.

Whitaker, a familiar face at the festival, said in a statement: “It is always a privilege to return to this beautiful festival both to showcase my work and to be inspired by some of the world’s greatest artists – and I am incredibly honored to be here. celebrated as part of the 75th anniversary of the festival.”
