Actor Bill Murray’s “inappropriate behavior” complaint has caused Searchlight Pictures to suspend production of “Being Mortal,” a film written and directed by Aziz Ansari, according to a person working on Production.
Searchlight sent a letter to the cast and crew on Wednesday stating that the suspension was due to a complaint, but gave a few more details.
“We became aware of a complaint last weekend and immediately looked into it,” said the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. “After reviewing the conditions, it has been decided that production cannot continue at this time.”
In the letter, no information was given about the nature of the complaint or who it was about, but the person working in the production, who spoke on the condition that his name is not disclosed because the details of the matter are kept confidential, said that the film was closed. He was dropped because of what was described by Murray as simply “inappropriate behavior.”
The person said that the episode that caused the complaint took place on Friday and resulted in shutdown that day. Production spent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday conducting an investigation, which resulted in it being determined that work on the film could not continue for the time being.
The suspension was reported by Thursday Deadline. Searchlight’s owner Disney and an attorney representing Murray did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday evening.
