Giants Hire Brian Dabolll as Coach

The Giants have named former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Dabol as their next head coach, the Giants announced Friday evening. Dabol to join Buffalo colleague Joe SchoenAnnounced as the new general manager of the Giants earlier this week, he tries to match the success of the Bills during a time when the Giants cratered.

“I have a pretty good idea and understand where the sentiments of our fan base are right now,” Dabolll said in a statement. “I promise we will do our best to put a team on the field that you will be proud to support and give us the results we all want.”

Since the Giants’ fourth Super Bowl win in February 2012, the team has made it to the playoffs only once as a first-round exit in 2016, and has recorded only two winning seasons. The last five seasons have been particularly weak as the team won a total of 22 games during that time and finished the 2021 season with a record 4-13. The result has been a revolving door to the head coach position: Dabolll will be the team’s fourth hire since 2016, a turbulent turnover rate, especially immediately after Tom Coughlin’s 12-year run led the team.

At Buffalo, Schoen was part of the new regime that ended the Bono’s 17-year playoff drought in 2017. The organizational rebirth continued a year later when Dabol came along with quarterback Josh Allen. The team has since won the AFC East twice, reaching the AFC championship game last season.

Five days ago, Dabol was looking for a Bills offense with 422 yards and 36 points, and Came 13 seconds after beating Kansas City on the way to the divisional round of the playoffs. Work in the last four years Developing Allen Being one of the NFL’s top young stars has been a top selling spot for a team hoping to plan a brighter future for the quarterback Daniel Jones6th overall draft pick in 2019.

Giants co-owner John Mara took responsibility for not creating an environment in which Jones had a chance to fulfill his potential, and told reporters earlier this week, “We’ve done everything possible to screw this kid up since he got here.”

Hiring an offensive head coach should be a step towards providing the kind of stability that Jones, who currently plays for three offensive coordinators, has been missing throughout his professional career. Giants don’t yet know if Jones could be franchise quarterback – they this spring will decide He was undecided on whether to take the fifth-year option on his rookie contract – but the team wants to be able to make that decision without the confusing variant of organizational chaos.

Dabolll began his NFL coaching career in 2000 as a defensive quality control coach for Bill Belichick in New England. Nick Saban, who had worked the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, recommended him for the job. Dabol then won a national championship with Saban as Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in 2017 before joining Bono.

Allen’s raw talent as a rookie is a project and promise, but over time he and Dabolll have produced one of the most exciting offenses in the league. While Allen is uniquely talented, Dabol’s multidimensional quarterback experience will undoubtedly be useful when trying to set up a system for Jones, who once ran over 21 miles per hour during a game.

A head coach’s responsibilities extend far beyond working with the quarterback, but Schoen made it clear at a press conference this week that the new coaching team must “build an offense around Daniel to highlight what he does best.” Schoen’s work with Dabol in Buffalo undoubtedly informed the team’s assessment that Dabolll was the right man for both this role and the demanding organizational fit that Giants were looking for in hiring.

One of the few constants over the past few years for the devs is starting again. Of all the giants Dabolll and Schoen hope could change, this is at the top of the list.
