Here’s what’s happening in the markets today.


  • The S&P 500 rose 0.8 percent on Tuesday, setting a new record. The Nasdaq composite rose 0.6 percent.

  • The Stoxx Europe 600 closed with 0.2 percent gain. Asian markets were mixed.

  • Oil prices fell 0.9 percent to $70.61 a barrel on the US crude benchmark West Texas Intermediate.

  • BMW fell 4.2 percent stellantisJeep, which owns Peugeot and Fiat, rose more than 5 percent. Both automakers reported big gains in profits in their quarterly earnings reports Tuesday, but warned that a global semiconductor shortage continues to disrupt production.
