The Netflix movie “Red Notice” starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds was critically acclaimed, and the third season of “Narcos: Mexico” got off to a warm start.

That’s what Netflix reported on Tuesday when it unveiled a new website dedicated to viewership data.

The streaming company has provided viewership data before – but indiscriminately. It will now provide more detailed figures on a strict weekly schedule.

new site, “Top 10 on Netflix” will reveal the service’s 10 most popular TV shows or movies – a ranking that includes movies and shows the company has licensed alongside original content.

The regular top 10 list is the latest step in a gradual evolution for Netflix, which has a policy of keeping its data private until January 2019. when it starts broadcasting view data for exclusive shows and movies.

In the past, the company also disdained attempts from outside parties that had difficulty measuring. Netflix ratings. Earlier this year, as part of the change, Netflix’s co-chief executive Reed Hastings approved a new benchmark. by the research firm Nielsen to compare how many people are broadcasting, for example, watching cable television.

In the nearly three years it has released some of the data, Netflix has offered some viewing data four times a year at the time of its quarterly earnings, with occasional non-scheduled data dumps for unexpected hits.

The new site will be updated 52 weeks per year. It will include listings devoted to English and non-English titles, as well as TV shows and movies. It will also have a way to search for the most popular content in over 90 countries, providing a more detailed view of the daily top 10 lists available to Netflix subscribers.

“This is an important step forward for Netflix, the creators we work with, and our members,” said Pablo Perez De Rosso, vice president of content strategy at Netflix, in a blog post announcing the rankings. “People want to understand what success means in the broadcast world, and these lists provide the clearest answer to that question in our industry.”

There will still be no idea how the majority of Netflix’s original content fares – only the top performers will be listed. And the data will not provide clues as to how Netflix content compares to other series or movies on other networks or streaming services.

Still, the move could put pressure on HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, and other streaming platforms that offer even more piecemeal viewer data than Netflix.

Shows and charts will be sorted by total hours watched – an arguably more accurate look at measuring content than Netflix’s previous go-to metric, which counts a series or part of a movie as “viewed”. Nielsen, which publishes a weekly ratings sorter for streaming content, also uses hours watched to rank shows.

To increase the credibility of the list, Netflix announced that it has commissioned accounting firm EY to audit its rankings and produce a report on its findings, which will be published next year.
