Laurence Fishburne Cools Down With Classic Jazz and Cashmere Blankets

2. James Allen’s “When A Man Thinks” This book was given to me when I was 30 and it really changed my life. A book about meditation, the power of thought, and the reality of life and truth. I started meditating and my life got better. My life has improved.

3. A good pair of shoes These feet carry us. We must treat them well. It’s not a brand issue. A foot is as individual as a fingerprint. Anything that feels right, feels comfortable, supports your foot well. I’m currently wearing a nice pair of lace-up wingtip boots. They sleep great. And I have some shoes made by my friend Ozwald Boateng who are my dress shoes.

4. Favorite music I mostly listen to music made in the last century. I’m not allergic to today’s music. I just need a booster. I need a young person to introduce me to the music that is happening right now. Some of my favorite music would be “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis, “John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman”, “Identity” by Airto Moreira, “Band of Gypsys”, Cassandra Wilson, the Beatles, the Stones. Howling Wolf, Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson.

5. A great neck pillow and warm blanket I am a good sleeper. Actors, we have to use our energies like cats – we lie around and sleep a lot and then get up and perform. Having a small place to lie down with a pillow that hugs the neck, supports the head, and keeps the spine in alignment is all good. Cashmere makes a great blanket. I actually have one of these in my dressing room at the theater. He is fantastic.

6. Moroccan mint tea There’s a restaurant in Los Angeles where I’ve been eating since I was a kid. Tunis Mountain. At the end of the meal, they serve mint tea and almond cake. Mint has such a wonderful taste and smell that it is such a wonderful flavor. It just illuminates everything. It makes me happy.

7. A mini trampoline Its effect is low, it activates your blood. It’s like jumping rope without skipping rope. You defy gravity, seconds at a time. I have a mini bum in both my homes. I do a routine, but there is nothing rigid about it.

8. Crystals I met the Crystals around 1988. My home in Los Angeles, I have a lot of crystals there. There are only a few in New York. But I have a medicine bag that I sleep with. It has a Herkimer apple inside. It has a bit of Moldavite, a bit of smoky quartz, a bit of tourmaline in it. I have a good sleep every night. And my dreams can be so vivid. Crystals are medicine, man.
