Liana Finck Reimagines the Creation Story

The new book by cartoonist Liana Finck, “Let there be light” A woman, a neurotic artist, reshapes the story of God and Genesis.

“He exists in a vacuum at the very beginning of the book and decides to do something,” Finck says. “And it’s all fun and play until you start to doubt yourself and realize you’re not doing well enough. It’s really kind of a self-portrait of me at that point. He is well-intentioned, happy, and takes a heavy toll on himself.”

Jonathan Van Ness of “Queer Eye” fame visits the podcast to discuss his new book, “I Love This Story.” He speaks to Lauren Christensen, editor at Book Review.

“As a queer, we were told very early on what areas you could excel in. Beauty is often one of those areas. There are so many areas where you can be directed. I love hairdressing and beauty and I love what I can do in ‘Queer Eye’,” says Van Ness. But I also think that queer people who are feminine and flamboyant – that’s what I’ve been called my whole life – are not allowed to be gatherers and be seen as trustworthy.” He continues: “Obviously, I didn’t go to journalism school. I did not graduate from university. But that doesn’t mean I can’t learn and share my experiences with others.”

Also in this week’s episode, Joumana Khatib and Dave Kim talk about what they’re reading. Hosted by John Williams.
