Manuela Schär Wins Boston Marathon Women’s Wheelchair Race

Swiss Manuela Schӓr won the Boston Marathon women’s wheelchair race on Monday, reaching her fourth victory in the event.

The defending champion, 37-year-old Schӓr, left the group early and retained the lead for the entire race, finishing in 1 hour 41 minutes 8 seconds.

The win expands his victories list. In 2021 alone, Schӓr won the wheelchair women’s race at marathons in Boston, Berlin and London. She won four medals, including one gold, at the Tokyo Games in 2020.

Schӓr has been in a wheelchair since he was 9 years old, after he was unable to use his legs as a result of an accident while on a swing at a neighbor’s birthday party. Switzerland dominant wheelchair race thanks to strong financial support and a long tradition of mentoring.
