Medvedev Two Sets Ahead Against Djokovic

Daniil Medvedev tightened his grip on this US Open men’s final by leading Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 and putting a set in his first major title win.

Medvedev transformed his third set-point opportunity with an awkwardly pushed down hit that caught Djokovic off guard and caused him to stretch for a backhand that went far beyond the court.

The pro-Djokovic alliance within Ashe became more vocally desperate as players vacillated in his bid for the Grand Slam, applauding Medvedev’s missed first serves and double mistakes.

Of course, Djokovic is not out of this match. He has come back from two sets before in this Grand Slam bid, both at the French Open. He came back to beat Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round of this tournament and came back to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
