Peter Colin Moore was born on February 21, 1944 in Cleveland. His father, Raymond, was a career Navy officer. His mother, Mary (Jameson) Moore, was a housewife.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1969, he worked in a design studio that he eventually bought. He moved to Portland in 1972 and spent a year there as creative director of paper company Georgia-Pacific. He then opened a design studio in the city and took Nike as a client a few years later. He joined the company in 1983 as creative director.
After four years at Nike, Mr. Moore worked with Mr. Strasser and his wife, Julie Strasser, at their consulting business Sports Inc., which did extensive work with the Germany-based company Adidas. Adidas bought the company in 1993 and changed its name to Adidas America. The company’s goal was to reinvigorate the Adidas shoe and apparel brand, which in recent years has lagged behind Nike, Reebok and other companies in North America.
“Rob and Peter played to each other’s strengths,” Ms. Strasser said in a phone call. “They were very tight and had everything in common when it came to understanding sports brands. They knew what drove Nike and Adidas.”
When Mr Strasser died In October 1993, Mr. Moore was promoted from creative director to president, but resigned around 1995 and returned to creative director.
Among his achievements as a consultant and later manager at Adidas, EQT line Sneakers and sportswear products, lauded for returning Adidas to its roots, and the creation of a new company logo that takes the familiar three lines that adorn the edges of Adidas sneakers and reuses them in the shape of a mountain. It is now the main logo of Adidas.
He also signed a footwear and apparel deal with Denver Nuggets rookie center Dikembe Mutombo in 1992, and was included in Kobe Bryant’s deal with Adidas four years later.
