Renewed for Season 2 of Netflix’s ‘High on the Hog’


On the Pig: How African-American Cuisine Transformed AmericaThe Netflix series, which explores the roots of African-American cuisine, has been renewed for a second season, the streaming service announced on Tuesday.

The show hosted by food writer Stephen Satterfield, Based on “High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey From Africa From America” culinary historian Dr. A book by Jessica B. Harris. The first season, which premiered in May, mirrored the first half of the book, tracing the roots of ingredients like okra. West Africa, and exploring Black food routes in places like Texas.

Fabienne Toback, one of the executive producers of the series, said that the new season will probably be Dr. He said he would explore the second half of Harris’ book. Ms Toback said the show will continue to focus on systemic racism and explore the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on race and the restaurant industry. Release and production dates have yet to be determined.

Ms. Toback, who co-wrote the show with Karis Jagger, said, “One of the reasons we’re so interested in the project is that everybody eats, everybody loves food.” Ms. Toback added that “High on the Hog” opened the eyes of viewers to the history of Black food and the harsh conditions that brought material to the United States.

“Having the food to talk about these, not having a better word, made it delicious,” he said.
