Trevor Bauer of the Los Angeles Dodgers was suspended for two seasons, effective immediately, by Major League Baseball for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.
The suspension, which will cover 324 games for free, was announced Friday by Commissioner Rob Manfred. It came after an investigation by the League. alleged rape of woman. Bauer, who joined the Dodgers as a free agent last season, was placed on paid administrative leave on July 2. A second alleged attack was reported by the Washington Post.
Bauer, who voiced his own defense throughout the process and filed multiple lawsuits against various individuals, including members of the media, issued a statement condemning the decision on Friday.
“In the strongest possible terms, I reject any violation of the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy,” Bauer said in a statement. “I object to this action and expect it to prevail. As in this process, my representatives and I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings.”
Bauer becomes the 15th player to be penalized as part of the league’s domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy.
