USA Beats Czech Republic in Women’s Hockey


The American women’s hockey team is one win away from playing for another gold medal – but only after enduring an absolutely frustrating trip in Beijing on Friday.

Appearing in the first Olympic women’s hockey tournament, the Czech Republic threatened the 2018 Games champion United States with an offensive short-circuit in women’s hockey for most of their quarterfinals.

Similarly, Americans struggling to transform scoring chances a loss to Canada On Tuesday, they ultimately prevailed 4-1.

The Czechs, however, kept the Americans scoreless in the first period. Then they scored the first goal of the afternoon when Michaela Pejzlova took advantage of an almost open net and beat Alex Cavallini with the puck. It was the second shot of the day by the Czech team.

The Americans responded within 48 seconds, with four-time Olympian Hilary Knight coming out of a string of players to score.

After the Czech team squandered a crucial opening and failed to add it to their tally during a five-minute power play, the final quarter game started as a draw.

The Americans spent most of the period threatening the Czech defenses, but only to see their attack leap. About seven minutes passed before American defender Lee Stecklein took control of the puck near the blue line. He lined up and fired a shot from afar.

The puck looked like it was bouncing off a Czech club, and soon after it crossed the goal line. Czech goalkeeper Klara Peslarova threw her helmet in anger.

The Americans continued with an aggressive attack, and during a power play, Savannah Harmon added a third goal for the United States with about three minutes to go. The United States’ fourth goal, with 5.6 seconds left, came after the Czechs cleared their net.

The Americans, who will play in the semi-finals on Monday, took 59 shots, while the Czechs made just six attempts.
