Using Science and Celtic Wisdom to Save Trees (and Spirits)

In his forties, Dr. Beresford-Kroeger turned to writing, but it would take him ten years to find a publisher for the first manuscript. Since then, he has published eight books, of which at least a few are bestsellers in Canada. One was about holistic gardening, the other was about living a minimized life. But his main focus was on the importance of trees.

He wrote about the irreplaceability of the boreal forest, which basically spanned eight countries and “oxygenated the atmosphere under the most demanding conditions imaginable for any plant.” He introduced his “bioplan”: He says that if everyone in the world planted six native trees in six years, it could help mitigate climate change. He wrote about how a trip to the forest can strengthen immune systems, prevent viral infections and diseases, even cancer, and lower blood pressure.

There have been skeptics. One publisher scolded him for being a scientist who described the sights as sacred, he said. President of a foundation,Call of the Jungle” a documentary about his life slipped out that he didn’t believe a word of what he said.

Bill Libby, an honorary professor of forest genetics at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. When Beresford-Kroeger offered a biological explanation for why she felt so good after walking through sequoia groves, she said she initially had reservations. He attributed his sense of well-being to fine particles or aerosols emitted by trees.

Dr. “He said the aerosols were going up my nose and that’s what made me feel good,” Libby said.

External research has supported some of these claims. Dr. Studies led by Qi LingA physician who co-edited a book contributed by Beresford-Kroeger, Dr. A 2021 research from Italy He suggested that the lower Covid-19 death rates in the country’s forested areas were partly linked to immune-boosting aerosols from trees and plants in the region.

Dr. “Until recently, they laughed at me,” said Beresford-Kroeger, still keeping his Irish accent strong. “People seem to wake up suddenly.”

These days, Dr. Beresford-Kroeger is in great demand, attributing this change to growing fears about the environment and hunger for solutions.
