12-year-old Adam (Walker Scobell) questions a strange man (Ryan Reynolds) he finds in the cabin behind his house. They have the same demeanor, the man knows the boy’s dog’s name (Hawking) and they both wear the same watch. Could they be past and future versions of each other?
“I wanted this scene to not only establish the premise of the movie, but also do it in a way that creates a stylistic deal with the audience that essentially this movie will have,” said director Shawn Levy. It’s a somewhat fluid, blended tone that oscillates between comedy and poignancy.”
In the show, Scobell must mimic Reynold’s mannerisms. Levy said it was easy for the young actor making his debut.
“When we played Walker, we knew we had found this revelation that had done nothing, and we knew that the boy was intelligent, authentic and talented,” Levy said. “What we didn’t know was that he had been watching ‘Deadpool’ movies since he was 7 years old, so he came on set and starred with his protagonist whose rhythms and intonations were literally swallowed in half. from his very young life. So we never needed to teach Walker how to say and do things the ‘Ryan Reynolds way’. He already knew how.”
