“We make sacrifices,” he added, “because it’s a very valuable thing we do.”
After nearly a year and a half of cancellations due to the pandemic, Viotti said he wanted to start the new season in Amsterdam with a jolt. The city has been waiting for her arrival since Sophie de Lint, the artistic director of the Dutch National Opera, announced her appointment in 2019.
“Lorenzo was in high demand, so we had to be fast,” De Lint said in an interview. “He is truly one of the most talented chefs today. On top of that, he is an incredible ambassador for opera and classical music in general.”
Viotti was born into a family of musicians in Lausanne, Switzerland. one of her sisters, Marina Viotti, one mezzo-soprano and the other, Milena, plays a professional horn like her brother Alessandro. their father Marcello ViottiHe was chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra and musical director of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice when he died in 2005 at the age of 50.
Viotti was 14 years old at the time. “I don’t have many memories with him at work as a kid, but as a man, as a father, I learned a lot from him,” he said. “We scuba diving together, gardening together, playing football. These are the most important memories for me. Conductive memories are not important. ”
Growing up, Viotti was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles, including hip-hop, rap, funk and soul, as well as classical music. He tried his hand at many instruments, studied piano, viola and percussion, sang in the choir.
