MY SALINGER YEAR (2020) At 5 p.m. on Showtime. Based on the memoirs of Joanna Rakoff, this film follows young writer Joanna (Margaret Qualley) who takes a job in New York as an assistant to Margaret (Sigourney Weaver), a tech-hating literary agent. Joanna is given the tedious task of sorting through the fan mail of the agency’s reclusive best client, JD Salinger, and decides to bend the rules by personally responding to letters that would otherwise be unreadable.
BATMAN FOREVER (1995) At 6 p.m. on BBC America. In this episode of the “Batman” series directed by Joel Schumacher, Batman (Val Kilmer) comes face-to-face with the ticklishly split personalities of Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) and the relentless, wacky, neon green-clad Riddler (Jim Carrey). This adaptation of the Robin Hood saga follows the protagonist (played by Sean Connery) who returns to Sherwood Forest nearly 20 years after the original “steal from the rich, give to the poor” story. After returning from the war in the Crusades, Robin Hood finds himself embarking on his greatest adventure: trying to win the heart of Maid Marian (Audrey Hepburn). In true medieval fashion, the journey is full of many duels, heroic exchanges, ruthless foes (especially the Sheriff of Nottingham played by Robert Shaw), and there’s no shortage of romance.
