‘Wyrmwood: Apocalypse’ Review: Maximum Zombie Slayage

“Wyrmwood: Way of the Dead” He was as calm on cocaine as a Chihuahua, and his new sequel is no exception. The opening titles of “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” loom over the sounds of chaos: tires creak, machine guns fire, zombies cry. If you want to see the horror-action equivalent of a former metal rock musician setting his electric guitar on fire and then playing it with his teeth, this is your movie.

“Road of the Dead” stars Brooke (Bianca Bradey) and Barry (Jay Gallagher) reappear here, but the main character is Rhys (Luke McKenzie), a tough Mad Max-level hard-hitting soldier and dead brother. size chip on your shoulder. Brooke killed the brother in question, so when Rhys’ blatantly twitching, bloodthirsty boss (Nick Boshier) orders her to hunt him down so they can experiment on him – Brooke is a hybrid, she can calm her zombie side by drinking blood – she doesn’t. don’t hesitate. But after capturing another hybrid and one of Brooke’s allies, Grace (Tasia Zalar), Rhys begins to realize that not all zombies are expendable.

“Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” is a must-see for zombie fans, thanks to a clever script by director Kiah Roache-Turner and his brother Tristan Roache-Turner. In a humorous episode from the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song “Red Right Hand,” Rhys blows up an advancing zombie horde, then grapples with the survivors to water their plants and keep their house running.

It’s strange to see standard zombies thrown away so carelessly, as this movie is intended to say that hybrids like Brooke and Grace deserve human rights. But no one watches “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse” because of its ethics. Blood splattered on the camera in the first five seconds, and these films feature a high-octane, sickening joy.
