After the war, he resumed his life in what would become Israel. He studied singing, joined a choir, taught music, and in 1950 married truck driver Nissim Bejarano and had two children, a son, Joram, and a daughter, Edna. Hip-hop wasn’t his preferred genre of music. He joked that he convinced his bandmates to turn down their voices and stop jumping around on stage so much. He believed that hip-hop’s influence on young people could help him oppose the rise of intolerance.
“Twelve years together and almost 900 concerts together and it’s all thanks to your strength,” Microphone Mafia wrote on its website after Ms. Bejarano’s death. “Your smile, your courage, your determination, your loving attitude, your understanding, your fighting heart.”
