But it was also clear from the game’s first shift that Rangers were ready to get more physical. Gallant spoke roughly at the same time as Sullivan, so he was not made aware of the Pittsburgh coach’s feelings about the hit that hit Crosby. But the impact Crosby’s absence had on the game was undeniable.
“Obviously, he’s one of the best players in the world,” Gallant said. “He still had good luck. They still created a lot. He’s a great player for them and I hope he’s good.”
Rangers’ quick goals came two minutes and six seconds apart. With just over two minutes left in the period, Trouba’s kick gave the Rangers the lead and caused the fans to roar so loudly, the press box bridge swayed above the excitement.
“The building was unreal,” Lafrenière said. “It’s really noisy tonight.”
But that gap didn’t last long as Jake Guentzel made the score 3-3 after just 13 seconds. It was his sixth goal in the series and his 33rd in 56 career playoff games.
The Rangers took the lead with Filip Chytil’s strong play goal, his first post-season goal three minutes into the third season, and the team secured Game 6, sealing the win with a clear goal from Ryan Lindgren.
